Enrichment Opportunities at College!
RNN Group provides academic courses at a variety of levels for all ages and needs of learners across the communities it serves.
College life is not just restricted to academic learning. There are lots of opportunities for learners to engage with activities, clubs, trips and support whilst at College.
Next week, Colleges across the RNN Group are having their September Sign up week, at Dearne Valley College this will be held on Thursday 12th September from 9.30am until 3pm. This is where learners can see a variety of stalls and have a look at clubs and activities they may want to be involved in whilst at College.
Getting involved with clubs and activities is a fantastic way to make new friends, learn new or develop current skills and add value to your college experience.
Transferable skills – or power skills as they are called – are crucial in the job market now. It is these skills that employers are looking to see in employees more than ever. These skills include Communication, Creativity, Critical thinking, Decision making, Leadership, Adaptability, Flexibility, Problem solving, Showing Initiative, Resilience, Reliability and Time Management to name a few.
These skills are generally learnt through extra-curricular activities such a team work in a football team, problem solving whilst organising a charity event, and communication through working together on a new project.
Learners will learn to lead and be adaptable to work with others and have resilience when something does not work out the first time round.
Not only that, learners can sign up to the Turing Scheme, giving them access to work opportunities abroad for free where many life skills are learnt, not least communicating to others of different cultures and navigating a whole new language.
Most importantly – and something that is very much needed post Covid – these clubs and activities can support with developing confidence which is crucial when it comes to interviews and communicating and getting that all important job at the end of their time with us.
So, we would encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you next week and sign up to one or two of these to help you develop personally and professionally alongside your academic development.
