Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

Here is what Bethany had to say about her experience…

Firstly, what Interested you in doing an apprenticeship and choosing the apprenticeship you enrolled onto?

“My apprenticeship was a requirement of my employment and was chosen by my employer.”

How was the apprenticeship delivered and was it flexible to your needs?

“It was very flexible. I was able to graduate early due to the flexibility provided, and I was also given the opportunity to request distinction-level tasks.”

Do you feel that the College fully supported and guided you through your apprenticeship?

“Yes, the College was very supportive. They accommodated my SEN needs, allowing me extra time to process information, extended deadlines, and provided recorded sessions, which were essential for my learning.”

What Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours did you develop both in the workplace and in college, as part of your apprenticeship?

“I learned how to use appropriate terminology to describe my job role. For example, I now frequently use terms like dysregulation and scaffolding. The course also helped me gain a deeper understanding of key policies essential for my role, such as Keeping Children Safe in Education act.”

What do you feel has been your biggest achievement whilst on the apprenticeship?

“My biggest achievements were passing my Functional Skills in Maths and completing my course early with distinction.”

How did you prepare for your End Point Assessment?

“I spoke with my tutor, who explained the process step by step. This helped me practice and plan properly for the assessment.”

What advice would you give to future apprentices, coming onto programme?

“Get your assessments done as early as possible to stay on track. Also, maintain regular contact with your tutor – they can provide valuable support to make the course more accessible and push you to achieve your best.”

Now that you have completed your apprenticeship, how do you feel that it will support you going forward in the world of work?

“I feel much more confident in my skills and my role. Passing my Functional Skills in Maths means I can now support and teach maths with confidence.”

What are your next steps and future plans?

“I hope to become a Grade 4 Teaching Assistant and complete ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training. In the future, I may consider moving into teaching, but for now, I am happy in a more pastoral-focused role.”
