Engineering – Niall
Recognising the value Niall adds to his immediate team and the wider company, Engineering Technician Level 3 apprentice Niall Greensmith was nominated for the Outstanding Apprentice award in Manufacturing by his employer Pattinson Brothers, part of Europa Engineering Ltd.
Niall’s apprenticeship has required him to perform a variety of tasks including programming design instructions on machinery which produces a wide selection of heavy engineering materials including naval application.
Niall said: “There are lots of engineering applications such as castings for pumps, valves, oil and gas industries to big engineering components like fabrications for deep mining equipment in America and Australia.”
Steve Copley, Quality and Health and Safety Manager, is Niall’s senior at the company. Steve recognised Niall’s hands-on approach to learning all he can in his field.
Steve said: “Niall is working with a mentor on a machine to learn programming. His work is great and it helps us to because what he helps produce is actually saleable for us. It’s a win-win.”
Niall added: “To succeed here, you need to be dedicated and put your mind to it. For any apprenticeship there is a lot of learning so you have to keep at it. It’s a hands-on job which is great because I wouldn’t want a sit-down job. I’d like to keep progressing here.”
