Apprentices will work towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant knowledge, skills and behaviour, gaining key skills needed in the education sector. It’s an ideal course for someone wanting to work in a school environment. Apprentices will support the class teacher to enhance pupil learning and make progress in their education.
They will show competence through producing a portfolio of evidence, workplace observations, Q&A as well as assignment-based tasks, taking part in online class delivery and theory sessions, functional skills (where applicable).
The apprentice will gain a vast knowledge and applied experience within the education industry.
The programme will be delivered through synchronous and asynchronous learning, accessing a combination of blended learning consisting of face to face tutor-led teaching sessions as well as online training and independent study.
During the apprenticeship, apprentices will study and learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours which will prepare for the End Point Assessment:
- Child and Young Person Development: Stages of development, theoretical perspectives, impact of transition and supporting learners through transitions.
- Learning and Teaching Strategies: Teaching strategies (e.g., scaffolding, open questioning), adapting communication, adapting resources, and supporting independent learning.
- Assessment and Feedback: Methods of formative assessment, observing, recording, reporting, the learning, assessment, and feedback cycle, and providing effective feedback to learners.
- Curriculum and Pedagogy: Understanding the curriculum intent, its implementation and intended impact.
- SEND: Supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Technology in Education: How technology can support learning, using technology safely and encouraging safe use by learners.
- Safeguarding, Prevent and Health & Safety: Legislation, guidance, and procedures related to safeguarding (confidentiality and e-safety), Prevent, and health & safety.
- Behaviour Management: Applying behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Wellbeing and Mental Health: Supporting learners’ wellbeing, mental health, and pastoral needs, including referral to other professionals.
- Pastoral and Academic Behaviours: Identifying and responding to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Working in Partnership: Building relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals, and stakeholders, and communicating with teachers about the TA’s role.
- Learning Resources: Understanding available learning resources and how to use them.
- Target Setting: Principles of target setting to support the next steps in learning.
- Learning Interventions: Types of learning interventions and how to implement them.
- Enrichment Activities: Impact of enrichment activities on learners.
- Professional Behaviours and Development: Acting professionally and respectfully, being a positive role model, promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, committing to reflective practice and CPD, and engaging with research.
Mandatory qualifications will be completing throughout the course:
- Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 (if applicable)
