The qualification covers: preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing, bathing of dogs, drying dogs and preparing a dog for styling, carrying out trimming of a dog’s coat to prepare for styling, moving and lifting dogs, maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of the dog grooming environment, professional conduct, anatomical features and breed characteristics, behaviour of dogs, and will give you skills to work alongside a groomer. This is to work towards your level 3.

To provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to assist a stylist in a dog grooming salon or begin the stages of setting up their own dog grooming salon.
Learning Aims/Outcomes:
? Demonstrate bathing various dog breeds, traits and temperaments to a safe and high standard.
? Demonstrate preparing and clipping a dog’s coat ready for styling.
? Identify common canine health issues, different dog breeds and their coat types.
? Recognise basic dog behaviour and how to carry out fear-free practice within the grooming salon.
? Demonstrate safe and professional procedures within the dog grooming setting.

- 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to include English and Maths or
- Level 1 Vocational Qualification plus English and Maths at Functional Skills Level 1 or
- Mature learners with relevant and related work experience will be evaluated on an individual

- 16-18 year olds do not need to pay course fees
- Those aged 19 or over may not need to pay fees depending on their circumstances. Find out if you qualify for help with fees.
During practical sessions you’ll be expected to wear suitable clothing including non-slip flat shoes.
You’ll also be required to purchase your own equipment. This can be purchased through college as a student kit at a discounted price.
