This course is designed for students with particular interests in animals and would like to learn more about their fascinating lives and also understand how to cultivate the land to provide essential nutrients and living environment for animals It is designed to provide you with a wide range of specialist technical knowledge and practical skills to seek employment opportunities in either the land based sector, pet industry, zoo-keeping, wildlife or working with dogs. You will gain extensive hands-on experience working on the land at Dearne Valley college and woodland areas in addition to caring for a diverse range of animals such as small animals, companions, rodents, and exotic animals. Your programme will consist of classroom based theoretical learning of the principles of land and animal care in addition to spending time on the animal care unit applying practical skills of animal husbandry.
Students will develop knowledge skills and behaviours studying the following: Personal Development Team Leading Skills Team Work Communication Skills Using and Maintaining Horticultural Hand Tools Assist with Animal Accommodation Assist with the movement and Handling of Small Animals Developing Confidence Working with Animals
Four GCSEs Grade 2 or above You must also have evidence of recent tetanus vaccination.
On completion of this study programme you will be able to progress onto Level 2 Foundation T Level in Animal Care or Land Based studies.
