At Dearne Valley College you can build your career in construction and learn a hands-on skilled trade that will prepare you for the industry.
We offer training in all the main construction trades including courses and apprenticeships in bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating and plastering.
There are fantastic opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions and get involved in real-life projects, which will help you develop your CV and enhance your employability. You’ll be supported by industry experienced tutors and have the opportunity to complete an industry placement, which will help to develop your employability skills and build your network of contacts.
Our construction courses are delivered at various RNN Group campuses, please see the course list below. If your chosen course is delivered at Rotherham College, we have a student bus service available to make travelling easier.
You’ll learn all the key skills for being a Bricklayer: constructing half brick and solid walling, cavity walls, arches and solid wall piers, decorative fireplaces and chimney stacks. Other skills include, brick bonding, trowel skills and building complex masonry. Alongside practical skills you’ll also study health, safety and welfare and site procedures in construction. You’ll meet key employers in the trade and carry out work experience.
Our construction centre offers an industry-standard learning environment where each trade has its own workshop space, fitted with both individual booths and large workspaces. After successfully completing one of our industry recognised qualifications you can pursue a career in the building industry as a plasterer or further your knowledge and experience with an apprenticeship.
You’ll learn how to use wood machinery and power tools, explore all aspects of kitchen fitting, building partition walls, fitting door linings and fitting doors, modern truss roof construction, timber floor and roofing techniques and timber technology.
