Dearne Valley College support Ambition Barnsley event
Dearne Valley College recently attended the Ambition Barnsley event at the Metrodome Leisure Complex providing information, advice and guidance on post-16 study options that will allow local youngsters the opportunity to meet and exceed their ambitions.
The event attracts hundreds of school children from Barnsley and the surrounding areas who are seeking advice and guidance on the steps they can take to work towards their future aspirations.
With a wide range of curriculum areas represented at the event, staff delivered a range of interactive activities and demonstrations that allowed the attendees to experience the hands-on learning they would undertake when studying with us.
Our Computing and Digital department showcased Virtual Reality technology with an interactive game set-up, while the Motor Vehicle department brought a panel beating demonstration as well as a BMW i3 electric car which is used by learners undertaking Motor Vehicle courses.
Motor Vehicle Curriculum Team Leader Claire Evans brought along the environmentally friendly BMW; which proved hugely popular with event attendees and other exhibitors showing an interest in the futuristic-looking vehicle.
Claire said: “It’s been great to attend the event and showcase the Motor Vehicle offer available at Dearne Valley College. Bringing an electric vehicle like this has a real wow factor and has generated a lot of interest.
“We’re the only college in the region with a fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles that our students can work on once they obtain a Level 2 qualification in either Motor Vehicle Mechanic or Body Repair and achieve the Level 1 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness qualification.
“Our automotive offering is wide, we offer qualifications and apprenticeships in automotive maintenance and repair, body repair and an F-Gas Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigerant Handling.”
