Engaging Careers Event at Dearne Valley College
Last month Dearne Valley College welcomed a number of employers to our campus to promote different careers and further education institutes to our students. Our careers team organised this event to help students explore all the opportunities that is available to them.
The careers team wanted students to get experience in talking to employers as they would need to in the future, this has been very successful for our students to network and gain more information and advice on what they can choose to do with their future.
The employers who attended were McDonald’s, The Royal Navy, South Yorkshire Police, Gripple, Mears, Cepac, the NHS and Social Care.
Further education institutes who attended were University Centre Rotherham, Derby University, Huddersfield University and the University of Lincoln. We also had our own Careers Advice team and Apprenticeship team attended also offering helpful advice and guidance for our students.
Lindsey Ascough our Careers Leader said that ‘Its been great seeing our students speak with our exhibitors. It’s been a fantastic network opportunity for them.’
The students were able to discuss a wide range of job roles and gain further insight into sectors they may never have through of before.
PC Sui from the South Yorkshire Police said that ‘Its been a brilliant opportunity and very beneficial for both the police and the student to be here engaging with each other.’
Liz and Jake from Gripple stated that ‘This event has been able to open students minds to other opportunities that are available within Gripple. Its been good to speak to a diverse range of students from all curriculum areas of the college.’
Everild from NHS and Social care said that ‘It was heartwarming to find that so many young people are interested in careers helping others including admin roles.’
Our careers fairs have been happening across all our colleges this month so students from each campus have has the opportunity to explore their options.
