Visitors explore apprenticeship opportunities at Dearne Valley College
Dearne Valley College has been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2020 by helping local people look beyond typical progression routes in education and employment and explore the wide range of opportunities that an apprenticeship can provide.
The event, organised by RNN Training, shone a spotlight on the different sectors we deliver apprenticeships in with a real focus on Education, Social Care, Construction, Motor Vehicle and Hair and Beauty.
Visitors to the event had the opportunity to speak to tutors, have a tour of the college facilities including our state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshop and hybrid vehicles, speak to our Skills Consultants about some of the employers we work with and the apprenticeship positions that these businesses recruit for.
RNN Training Skills Consultant Team Leader Simon Hartley delivered a presentation that provided an overview of how an apprenticeship works and provided information about some of the employers we work with and was on hand to answer questions from the potential apprentices.
Simon said: “As an apprenticeship and training provider, we aim to deliver the skills for success to all communities which we serve. In aid of this, we’ve held an apprenticeship-themed Open Event at Dearne Valley College.
“I’ve really enjoyed answering visitor’s questions and raising awareness about the brilliant benefits hands-on learning brings. We’ve shown attendees around our fantastic facilities too and had a chat with our industry-experienced staff who help ensure all our learners hit the ground running when in the world of work.
“I hope everyone who came along now has a better idea on how we can help them reach for their dream career.”
RNN Training Director of Apprenticeships Lisa Wilson organised the event at Dearne Valley College.
Lisa said: “It’s been fantastic for our team to meet so many people at this event, and throughout National Apprenticeship Week, that are excited to learn about apprenticeships.
“We’ve met people today who have looked beyond traditional routes of education and employment and see the value that an apprenticeship can have for them and the potential impact on their career prospects.
“I think it’s really important that the role of apprentices, and the impact they have on business, are celebrated, and that we continue to showcase the amazing opportunities that putting people in the right apprenticeship can provide.
“We need to help educate people and show that apprenticeships aren’t only a great way to start a career but that they are a cost-effective way to upskill existing staff and management – particularly with the range of higher and degree apprenticeships that are now available.”
