Our Students, Their Success: T Level Health at Rotherham NHS
A heartwarming celebration took place at the Education Centre at Rotherham NHS Hospital, marking the successful completion of placement of our year one T Level Health students: Falzal, Alicia and Scarlett.
The event, which was organised and hosted by the hospital trust staff, was a gesture of gratitude for the students’ hard work and dedication throughout their time on the wards.
Deputy chief nurse Cindy gave a lovely speech about how well the students have done and handed them their certificates and goody bags acknowledging their dedication and commitment throughout their placement.
Our learner Falzal gave some insight into why he chose to study a T Level in Health:
“I think it’s a bit of an opportunity that you wouldn’t want to miss [doing a T Level]. I was doing sport for two years before this, but it didn’t feel like a right fit. I want to learn something I can do for the rest of my life.
I’m hoping to go into adult nursing. I think it will keep me busy, be a challenge and I’ll get to learn lots of different things. It’s been fascinating so far and I’m learning new things all the time. I’ve felt like a bit of a sponge!”
This placement proved to be a valuable learning experience for both our students and the NHS staff. For many staff members, this was their first encounter with T Levels, as they admitted to initially being unfamiliar with the qualification.
The Rotherham Foundation Trust, affectionately nicknamed by staff as the really friendly trust, hosted their first ever healthcare T Level placements in partnership with Dearne Valley College which is a fantastic milestone in developing the future workforce within the health sector!
Staff were thoroughly impressed by the students’ confidence and practical skills. When speaking to Alison and Sam, who are the ward managers for acute surgery and respiratory they commented
“I’ve had nothing but good reports from all the staff, all the students integrated really well, they took opportunities that were available to them, which was lovely to see.” – Alison
“It provided them such a big insight into what it’s like within the different roles.” – Sam
Our students’ confident start to their placement highlights the effective training provided at College, particularly the state-of-the-art training ward that’s available to students which provides them with realistic, hands-on learning.
The placement highlighted the effectiveness of T Levels in bridging the gap between education and employment. It offered our students invaluable practical experience within a real-world healthcare setting.
We look forward to future T Level placement opportunities in partnership with the Rotherham NHS!
