Dearne Valley College Tutor to Deliver Masterclass for WorldSkills
Claire Evans, Curriculum Team Leader for Motor Vehicle Technology at Dearne Valley College has been selected as a guest speaker for WorldSkills’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event.
In conjunction with the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), WorldSkills are hosting a CPD event, which looks at developing excellence in teaching and training through a series of workshops and educational sessions. These sessions cover a range of different subject areas, including Digital Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering, The Art of Effective Teaching and much more.
Delivering a Masterclass in Vehicle Body Repairs, Claire has been chosen to shed light upon the challenges that come with working on modern vehicles, including working with adhesive and riveting repairs.
Claire will also provide an insight into her work as a WorldSkills Ambassador. As a part of RNN Group’s (parent organisation to RNN Training) work, five teachers were chosen as WorldSkills Ambassadors, where they worked with WorldSkills Coach Frazer Minskip to deliver excellence through their teaching.
Speaking about her involvement in the upcoming event, Claire said: “I am really looking forward to being part of the Worldskills Masterclass session.
“I feel that my training with Frazer and WorldSkills has pushed my knowledge and know-how within my skill set to the next level. This has resulted in more enhanced teaching sessions that give learners the repair skills and knowledge used within the trade today.”
Frazer, who has worked closely with Claire through her WorldSkills Ambassador role and who comes from a Motor Vehicle Technology background himself, was full of praise for her ahead of the event.
He said: “In her role as a WorldSkills Ambassador, Claire has been a fantastic advocate for both her College and the Motor Vehicle Body Repair skill as a whole.
“Through extensive training, Claire has furthered her already impressive knowledge and skill within the Motor Vehicle Body Repair industry, and she is now well on her way to becoming an expert on the new generation of vehicles which are on the road today.”
In the three and a half hour Masterclasses, Claire, Frazer and a global network of specialists will bring their expertise to analyse best practice in teaching and further development. This will take shape through educators and specialists from Denmark, Canada and the UK being brought in to discuss their way of work.
The importance of learning from international equivalents was highlighted by Frazer.
He said: “As Colleges, we exist to equip apprentices and students with the skills for success across a variety of workplaces. We have to ensure that the skills we have are the best they can be and to learn from our national and international counterparts.”
The WorldSkills CPD Event is a free event that will be held on the WorldSkills website on the 24th and 25th of November. The event supplies sessions on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, The Art of Teaching, Live Technical Masterclasses, and Education 4.0
Claire and Frazer’s Masterclasses on Automotive Body Repair and adhesive joinery will take place from 12.30pm-4.00pm, on the 24th of November and 9.30am-1.00pm on the 25th of November.
